Rimas de Bécquer is a composition that was composed for Voice and Guitar, based on rhymes by poet Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer found in his book, Rimas y Leyendas. Although the original Rimas de Bécquer was composed by renown composer and pianist, Isaac Albéniz, Ivan A. Parga-Renteria was inspired to set the same text found within the song cycle into his own re-interpreted setting, paying homage to both Albéniz and Bécquer.

El Viaje is a composition for 4+ guitars, and was inspired by the style of Minimalism, where the focus is about avoiding the unnecessary and working with simplicity and utility. The phrase “less is more” is a good example of what this work aims for, creating a development within the music utilizing minimal variation in the melodic or harmonic figures between the different parts. This movement of Minimalism, began primarily in American society in the 1960s, being interpreted within visual arts and music, however, many aspects of Minimalism have been adopted in other ways, even in application to people’s daily lifestyle.

Fantasía y Baile is a virtuosic work based off many genres and forms that have influenced Parga in both his compositional style and taste in music. In this piece, you will find influence of not only classical music, but of Latin music as well, as they both create a unique and challenging setting of music. One of the primary influences of the playing style is the requinto found within the Latin music style, the Bolero, due to its natural affinity towards virtuosic technique and performances. Due to this, the style lends itself exceptionally to other complex forms of music such as the fantasia, sonata, fugue, etc.
